In jointing with sealing lengths (4, 6) impregnated with bituminous or other thermoplastic materials, the process involves smoothing the end sections (20), with application of heat and melting the sealing material in preparation for the attachment of further lengths (12, 14). Here a heated shaped unit is moved along, in contact with the end sections, its temp. being sufficient to melt the sealing material on. The end section shape may be corrected or straightened in this process, and several such sections may be treated simultaneously. The shaped unit can be electrically or otherwise heated by a flameless source, and its contact surfaces can be adapted to the required end section configuration. It may be fitted with a handle, and automatic contact surface temp. control. |
