A phase controlled transmission aerial array has energy supplied via a primary feed system. The feed consists of a number of radiation elements arranged in rows and columns. The signals are converted into a primary wave electronically. The desired deflection of the beam is via a phase shift network. There is a secondary array of radiator elements also arranged in rows and columns. In the receiving mode the direction of the energy is in the opposite direction to the first array. There is a single primary supply system which feeds either the first or the second set of radiation elements. The feed is conventional through the free space using a primary radiator (P) or a high frequency cable. The direction of maximum radiation of the aerial array can be selectively switched between the first and second radiator elements. The phase shift network can be controlled via a high frequency changeover switch.
