Engine with tilting disc piston - which has sealing ring, providing sealing pressure which increases with engine speed

The engine can be used as motor, compressor or pump and has at least one cylinder (2) in which a disc-shaped piston (1) moves up and down. The disc is fixed to the piston rod (6) so that it tilts with the piston rod. The outline of the piston and cylinder can be oval, square or rectangular and the cross section varies along the length to suit the tilting of the piston. For this reason, the cylinder is manufactured on a special machine or on a numerically controlled machine. The piston has a central piston ring (15) behind which a flexible tube is mounted. The tube is connected to a column of fluid in the piston rod. The inertia forces of this fluid which acts against the piston ring, increases when the engine speed is increased.
