The gas turbine consists of a rotor (2) fixed to a shaft (3) and turning in a closed circular housing (1). Saw tooth-like impulse surfaces (8) surround the rotor edge and are cast as a unit together with the rotor. Two or more axial compressors (10, 11) are fitted radially outside of the turbine housing and are driven by the turbine shaft. The first compressor draws in atmospheric air, compresses it and passes the pre-compressed air to the second compressor until a final compression of 80 to 100 atmospheres is reached. The final compressor output is fed via a regulated inlet valve (16) to a combustion chamber containing a fuel injector nozzle (18) and an exhaust valve (17). Both inlet and exhaust valves are rotary valves actuated by regulator rods (19) and eccentres (20) from the turbine drive shaft. Fuel is injected into the combustion chamber when both valves are closed. The high compression existing in the combustion chamber causes spontaneous combustion, the exhaust valve opens and expanding gases act upon the rotor impulse edge and causes the rotor to revolve.
|
