Building elements and timber substitutes are produced from resin-bonded cellulosic materials such as wood chips, oil seed residues, reeds and esp. straw. Initially the press piston encounters no resistance. When the finished product flowing away is breaed a counter pressure develops, and this is altered as required to produce dense or low density materials of any desired specific gravity. Compared to the output of a ten stage hot and cold platen press requiring 8-10 men to operate it, the prodn. of the continuous flow press with two men is >= 1.65 times better, and more economical of heat energy.
