A speed control governor has weights 154, Fig. 5, mounted in angularly spaced slots 152 of a driven gear 64, and a cap 148 engaging the segmented end of the gear for rotation therewith, the cap and gear forming a cage for locating the governor weights. The latter have fingers 158 to act on a thrust washer 160 and a spring-loaded metering valve 34, Fig. 1, held against rotation by a spider 164. A throttle 25 adjusts a member 186 engaging one end of an idle control spring 184 and serving as a stop for a spool 180 abutting one end of the metering valve spring 29. A screw 144 permits the position of the valve to be adjusted when the governor is at rest while the gear'64 is driven by a gear 65 on the shaft 60 of a fuel injection pump 40 receiving fuel from the metering valve and delivering it through passages 76, 78 to a plurality of fuel pump outlets 84. The metering valve receives fuel from an air separator 26 which in turn receives it from a vane type pump 18, a pressure-regulating valve (not shown) and an inlet pipe 22. The pump 40 consists of a pair of plungers 44 slideably mounted in a bore 42 and arranged to be driven towards and away from each other by diametrically opposed cam lobes 52, Fig. 4, on a ring 50 which may be rotated by a plunger 102 to adjust the timing of the pump. A pilot valve 105 subjected through passages 104, 108 to the fuel pressure in the separator 26 connects a port 111 leading to the space 113 at one end of the plunger either to the passages 104, 108 or to the pump housing through the passage 114. The fuel pressure on the pilot valve is opposed by an adjustable spring 109 and a non-return valve prevents reverse flow when the injection pump pressure falls. |
