<p>The side panels of the car are joined by seams which extend outwards to form lips (1, 2, 3) over which are clipped U-clips (5) spaced along the seam. The top edges of the U-clips have slots into which are screwed self tapping screws (13) which serve to secure the trim strip (10). The trim strip is then covered by a central spring strip (14) so that the screw heads are hidden. The U-clips are welded in place if required, and can be located flush with the lip if the lip is cut away at these sites. The trim strip is demountably attached and can be replaced when damaged, or to change the colour trim. The fitting does not present any extra rust spots for the car and is simple to apply in mass production.</p> |
