The headlamp/windscreen wiper blade is driven by a plate (22) which is coupled to a drive plate (39) by two cable drives (37). The drive plate is mounted on the motor gear box (11) and is driven by a crank (44) for the reciprocating motion. In order to ensure accurate drive the cable drives are shorter in their stroke than required by the drive plate, and are coupled to the driven plate by springs (35). The springs take up any extra travel in the drives and ensure an accurate positioning of the wiper blades. This ensures that the blades are not damaged by the edges of the headlamps etc. The springs can be coil springs or elastic pads.
