1486203 Inflatable fluid pressure actuator for pivoted members INSTITUTE FOR INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH & STANDARDS 20 Sept 1974 [4 Oct 1973] 41010/74 Heading E2M A fluid pressure actuator for two pivoted members, e.g. a door 3 hinged at P to a frame 1, comprises an elongate inflatable flexible conduit 5 connected to the members by means 8, 9 at diametrically opposite positions such that on inflation of the conduit the effective distance between the points of connection is reduced and a pulling force is exerted on the members. As shown bars 13 are located within the conduit and are received within bent over members 11 mounted on door and frame and connection means 9 is hinged to the door to allow the pulling force to be exerted at the most suitable angle. Any suitable fluid e.g. air or water may be employed and a conventional spring or hydraulic closer is used to return the door when the conduit is deflated. In a further embodiment (Figs. 5-7 not shown) the connection means comprises slotted plates bolted to the conduit and engaged by bolts on the door and frame - one plate being loosely mounted to allow pivotal movement similar to means 9 in the illustrated embodiment. |
