摘要
1486539 Refining ferrous melts BRITISH STEEL CORP 4 Oct 1974 [5 July 1973] 32043/73 Heading C7D In the electric arc furnace production of steel, metal in liquid and/or solid state is charged to the furnace, the charge is heated both by the arcs and by oxygen blown through the inner nozzle of a coaxial tuyere 8 in the side wall 2 of the furnace, (the outer nozzle carrying a protective fluid) and a particulate charge of ferrous material is continuously fed into the vessel. The oxygen may include entrained lime, and may be replaced by an inert gas if the molten metal in the furnace does not cover the tuyere, and when the metal is subsequently tapped. The protective fluid may be atomized fuel oil, propane, natural gas, blast furnace or coke oven gas, N 2 , H 2 , CO 2 , Ar or H 2 O and is supplied preferably at 2-10% of the 02-rate. Suitable solid and particulate charges are ferrous scrap, pig iron or pre-reduced pellets; suitable molten charges include pig iron and prerefined iron or steel. The outer nozzle may be of C or stainless steel, and the inner of Cu; the nozzles may be spaced by fins. In another embodiment Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) the furnace is tilted to allow the molten metal to cover the tuyere so that O 2 - refining may commence. The furnace may be provided with two coaxial tuyeres.
