PURPOSE: To obtain a pharmaceutical composition comprising HMG CoA reductase inhibitor or/and squalene synthetase inhibitor and useful for treatment of peripheral blood vessel arteriosclerosis and intermittent claudication. CONSTITUTION: This pharmaceutical composition comprises a 3-hydroxy-3- glutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase inhibitor, e.g. mevastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin, velostatin or a squalene synthetase inhibitor, specifically a compound of formula I or formula II (R<1> is formula III to formula VI) or a combination of both inhibitors, or as necessary, a combination of the above one or two inhibitors with a serum cholesterol lowering agent/or cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitor (e.g. nicotinic acid or p-aminosalicylic acid) having a function other than that suppressing the production of HMB CoA reductase. |
