The heat inertia of liq. bulks is minimised and the heating rate increased by feeding the liq. at a constant level, into a space contg. a source of heat and a substrate which has capillary, wetting and absorbent properties. The substrate absorbs the liq., reduces it progressively to infinitisimally small separate quantities, presents an expanded transfer surface in relation to the surface emitting heat and provides space for gaseous expansion, when the flu id arrives in the region of thermal radiation. The substrate is of vegetable, animal, or mineral fibres, and may have different diameters in successive layers, the smallest being at the heating zone. The method gives dry vapour, can be applied to water and other liquids, whether corrosive or not, permits recycling of waste water, provides a simple distn. process, reduces the need for insulation of generators of hot water or steam, and can be extended to all methods of heat prodn. usable in fluid heaters or vaporisers.
|
