Two chain rollers run on axes parallel to each other, so that the outer edges of the rollers pinch between the ribbons of a pliable material that pass over each roller. The rollers have rows of cavities, each cavity forming a half capsule so that between the rollers a complete capsule is formed. A Maltese Cross mechanism is included in the rollers' drive so they rotate step by step. The rotation is momentarily stopped just at the point where the inside edges of the half-capsules formed are brought together at the pinching point. This enables a measured load of powder to be deposited in the half-capsules. Measured quantities of powder are delivered by a feed roller with rows of loading chambers, to a position vertically above the pinching point of the chain rollers. Each load is guided directly into a pair of partially joined half-capsules by a raow of guide, tubes mounted on a common support bar. The lower surface of the support bar is shaped to the surfaces of the chain rollers and in contact with them except at the point where they come together. A relatively low quantity of gelatine can be used and the scattering of powder is reduced to a min. since it is fed directly into the partially formed capsule. |
