[Also in Division C1] A liquid organic medium consists of, or contains, compounds and/or complexes of at least two metals of groups IB, IIB, IIIB, IVB, VB, VIB, VIIB, or VIII of the Periodic Table, and is subjected to gaseous reduction to precipitate at least one metal value (e.g. as metal but possibly in the form of oxide or hydride) whereby separation of the metals is achieved. When the electronegativity of the metals is equal to, a lower than that of Cd, an acid acceptor (e.g. NH 3 or an organic amine) is preferably added to the organic medium. The reducing gas may be CO, SO 2 or preferably H 2 and seed particles (e.g. of metal or graphite) may be used. The organic liquid may be the result of a liquidliquid extraction process.</p> |
