<p>The IC engine for generating rotary motion comprises a piston in the form of a rectangular flap (2) mounted on a central shaft (6), oscillating (4) in an hour-glass section cylinder (1). Seals are fitted as necessary to create 4 wedge-shaped combustion chambers (3), with valve gear (5) and means of ignition (15). Lubricant is provided via passages (12) in the piston. Piston and output shaft are connected by a lever (7) fixed to the piston shaft (6), connecting rod (8) and crank (9) so dimensioned and arranged that the piston oscillation is converted to shaft rotation. Timing of the valves (5) - which need not be rotary - is by means of a shaft-driven belt/chain. Coolant passages can be embodied in the design. Supercharging can be provided by using 2 of the chambers (3) in the cylinder for pre-compression.</p> |
