1485043 Alternative motion windows J H BIERLICH 18 July 1975 [19 July 1974] 32163/74 Heading E1J An alternative motion window assembly comprises a sash 1 coupled to members 7, 9 by hinges 10, 11. The members -7, 9 arecoupled to the jambs 13, 14 by studs 15, 16 and slots 17, 18 and by stays 19, 20 which are pivotally connected 22 to the jambs and by sliding pivots 23 to the members. The locking mechanism located in the sash comprises a handle 28, straight bolts 30, 31 and curved bolts (54, 55). In the first position of the handle. the bolts 30, 31 project and bolts (54, 55) are withdrawn; in the second position of the handle the bolt positions are reversed. Bolts 30, 31 engage the upper rail of the main frame and bolts (54, 55) engage the insets 60, 61 locking members 7, 9 to the sash. Pegs 24, 25 on the lower rail engage sockets 24a, 25a on the sash. With the sash closed and the handle in the first position the window is locked; moving the handle to the second position allows the sash to be opened to the ventilating position Fig. 2; returning the handle to the first position permits the sash to be reversed for cleaning Fig. 3.
