Ultrasonic speed transformer comprises a stepped concentrator (4-6) with an amplitude amplification factor of more than 1, and a core (2, 3) of varying cross-section. The concentrator and core are acoustically connected to each other rigidly at their wide ends, and their joint length comprises n.x/2, where n is an integer between 1 and infinity, and x is the wave-length of longitudinal vibrations, allowing for dispersion. The core pref. has a divergent section (2e with a length of 1/k 1n Nc (where Nc is the square root of the area ratio of the wide and narrow ends and k is the wave number), and a constant-dia. section (3) with its end connected to the concentrator. The areas of the wide end of the divergent section and of the constant-dia. section are equal.
