The device uses the eddy current method to measure the surface roughness of non-ferrous metals, particularly electrolytically deposited copper. The analogue frequency measurement uses a Clupp oscillator, so adjusted that for a smooth surface the test probe registers a frequency of 1 MHz. To compensate for the oscillator is used in a feed back loop. Induction changes in the test cost (7) cause determining of the oscillator which is compensated by an adjustable capacitor (6). The capacitor is calibrated in terms of smoothness depth (Rp).
