A filtration appts. for purifying a gas, e.g. air contg. radioactive particles, or noxious gases, incorporates a partition, placed in the path of the gas at right angles to the direction of flow, and in which is a hole surrounded by a projecting rim. A filter, consisting of a rigid frame in which are housed filter elements, is fixed by one of its faces against the downstream face of the partition, over the hole. The filter appts. incorporates a sleeve, open at both ends, made in flexible material impermeable to the gases. One of the ends is fitted on the rim surrounding the hole in the partition. The other end is fitted on the frame of the filter. The dimensions of the frame and the rim on the partition are such as to leave an annular space between them, forming a housing for the sleeve, folded when the filter is in place on the partition. Ensures that the operator is totally protected from of the container from where it is pumped away. The water is de-gassed by continuously evacuating an air space above the level of the mineral/water mixt. at the top of the container. Alternatively the water can be de-gassed before it is pumped to the container. The process is used in the continuous purificn. of granular minerals, esp. quartz sand, and is purely physical, as opposed to the messey chemical processes generally used.
|
