<p>Compression-ignition engine has an auxiliary combustion chamber accommodating an injector nozzle, and connected by a narrow throat to the main chamber. The auxiliary chamber (2) has a spring-loaded valve (8) automatically controlling the supply of scavenge air, and actuated by the pressure differences in the main chamber. The scavenge air can be blown into the auxiliary chamber by the pressure from an exhaust turbo-charger, compressor etc. The design improves pre-combustion and thus reduces the proportion of noxious ingredients in the exhaust gases.</p> |
