Adhesive half esters - prod. of maleated alpha olefins and monohydric alcohols

A compsn. of formula (I) is new (where R and R' are hydrocarbyl; and e are 1-5; f is 2-1000; M is a cation). Water-insoluble (I) may be used as hot melt additives, surfactants, plasticisers, tackifiers or thickening agents for aq. and org. systems, a reactant for preparing thermoplastic and thermoset resins, a solvent in polymn. etc. Water-soluble (I) may be used as a vehicle in aq. adhesive or aq. coating formulations. (I) are particularly useful in preparing paper stocks which are adapted for recycling into a high grade of pulp via conventional, alkali repulping processes.
