Support of cryogenic storage tanks inside chamber - e.g. of a ship for transporting low boiling liquefied gases

The storage vessel is held in place by supports connecting the upper and lower ends of the vessel with the walls of a thermally insulated chamber. Each support has an outer guide member which is 'C' shaped in cross-section and rigidly attached to the side wall of the chamber and an inner 'C'-section guide rail concentrically located inside the outer rail. The inner rail is connected to the outer rail by an insulating material having high compressive strength. A 'T'-section carrier is located inside inner rail and is free to move in one plane. The support load is transmitted uniformly to the walls of the chamber, whilst low thermal conductivity is maintained. The support is simple to construct using standard sections.
