Multi layer wire wound filter - has winding time reduced by winding several wires simultaneously and providing oscillation of feed head

The multi-layer filter is manufactured by winding wire around a forming mandrel. To reduce the winding time several wires (4) are wound simultaneously around the forming mandrel (2). The wires (4) are held at the required distance apart by a guide frame (3) which oscillates along the length of the mandrel (1). The wires are coatedd with a suitable material so that after a chemical or thermal treatment the wires are bonded to each other at the cross-over points. For very fine filters wires of different diameters may be used with the finer wires lying in the gaps between the larger diameter wires.
