The work table has a series of workpiece jigs indexing along a closed track in a horizontal plane, and remaining aligned in the same direction. At each station they deliver an item for machining and receive one for machining at a further one, or transport it through while a machining operation is carried out. The section of track incorporating the station which is shaped so as to enclose an area with the straight line referred to. The track section can be curved or angled, accommodating guide pieces on the jigs, which lie against each other, and containing a whole number of jigs.
