1,134,765. Friction clutches. BORGWARNER CORP. 9 Nov., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 50277/66. Heading F2C. A clutch is engaged by a remote spring acting through a thrust bearing 22 and a diaphragm ring 24 on the clutch pressure-plate 20. The pressure-plate is secured to the ring 24 by bolts 26 having retainers 30 extending between inwardly extending tangs 35 of the ring to prevent relative rotation. The outer edge 38 of the ring is of reduced thickness and is fulcrumed on a flange 40 of a cover-plate 12. As shown, torque is transmitted from the cover-plate to the pressure-plate by a plurality of brackets 42 welded to the cover-plate and engaging slots 44 in the pressureplate. In a modification the diaphragm ring serves to transmit torque to the pressure-plate, and is provided with keyways in its periphery engaging brackets on the cover-plate. |
