<p>1527535 Tunnelling shields GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 5 July 1976 [5 July 1975] 27827/76 Heading E1F A tunnelling shield for driving a tunnel, trench or other excavation through loose ground or non-self supporting rock, includes a face support device comprising two or more receptacles 26a, 26b arranged one above the other and open at least on the side intended to be directed towards the face. The face support device is mounted on a support frame 11, and the shield further comprises sharp ended planks 10 which are each connected to the support frame 11 by a double-acting hydraulic ram 12. Preferably the receptacles 26a, 26b are open-backed, the rear openings being provided with removable planks 30 held in place by wedges 31, so that the receptacles can be emptied one at a time. As shown, the receptacles are arranged in separately adjustable tiers 13, 14, 15, each tier including a support having a portion 16', running in guides. Each support is controlled by two rams 19 (only one shown in Fig. 1) whose longitudinal position relative to the support frame 11 can be adjusted by means of pins 23. The lowest receptacle is preferably spaced from the floor of the working to allow location of a cutter-loader 35. The receptacles are of sufficient depth, in a direction normal to the face, so that material falling into them forms piles which stop short of the rear ends of the cavities. Means may be provided for emptying the receptacles continuously if desired.</p> |
