Treating small quantities of clothing in large capacity machines - by sealing in bags, prior to treatment, to reduce amt. of solvents or other agents required

Process for treating small quantities of clothes or similar articles in a machine of large capacity comprises sealing the articles and the required treating agent in a flexible non-porous bag. The bag is tightly sealed to trap a vol. of air equiv. to >=101/kg. clothes. The closed bag is agitated in the machine then the contents are emptied and the usual subsequent operations are effected. Pref. of sufficient size for it to remain flexible after sealing and is sually of a flexible plastics material such as polyethylene, in the form of a tube sealed at its ends. Different types of articles may be sealed in different bags to be agitated together in a large machine then drained and dried in the normal manner. Method is esp. useful for cleaning suede and leather articled which required different treatments than textiles but can be effected simultaneously by this process. Cleaning and dyeing of separate articles can also be performed at the same time. Smaller amts. of solvents and treating agents are thus used whilst using the machine to fuller capacity.
