An arrangement for heightening or for reinforcing or sealing dykes or dams uses a long hose type container. The latter is made from strong flexible waterproof material such as coated or uncoated fabric, rubber or plastics sheets. This hose is filled with water and can be, if necessary drained. This arrangement ensures especially sealing by a especially simple and advantageous manner. This hose arrangement is not readily moved away from position. The hose shaped container is capable of floating over its whole length. It is filled with water and floated into a position parallel to the outside of the dyke and contacted with its edge.
