The design is particularly for adjustable front seats on motor vehicles, with a free space between the seats. The purpose of the design is to prevent articles stowed between the seats being thrown about due to sudden braking or vehicle impact. The main feature is that the zone between the two seat backs (8, 10) has a central padded section. This is supported by one of the seat backs, but part can be pivotted forward and used as a central arm rest (22). The other part (30) is fitted rigidly to the back rest. Articles are stowed inside the folding section which is designed as a lid and a tray.
