A material has a preselected, preferably high, resistance to the flow of gases or liquids. A fluid tight foil has perforations and is fixed to a flexible fabric. The material is used as a bottom lining in operations where a viscous mass is to be aerated and moved. The high resistance allows gas to be fed below the lining to deform the lining which at the same time lets the gas through at a controlled rate. As well as having high flow resistance the material is flexible and strong.
