The switching circuit, for private automatic telephone exchanges, use short code numbers to denote call numbers for automatic dialling. The call numbers are stored under their corresponding automatic-dialling code numbers in a group of dialling memories. The addresses of groups of subscribers are stored in a subscriber memory. An identifier determines the group to which a wanted subscriber (automatic dialling) belongs and the appropriate dialling memory is then brought in to give the full call number corresponding to the short code.
