<p>1382597 Polyester filaments IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 March 1973 [16 March 1972 5 May 1972] 12363/72 and 21084/72 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] A filament having an elongation to break of less than 50% comprises two substantially linear polyester components which have different shrinkages and are eccentrically arranged with respect to each other in the filament cross-section, each component comprising a major proportion of ethylene terephthalate residues and a minor proportion of other residues copolymerized with the ethylene terephthalate residues, one component having a higher proportion of such other residues, a higher melt viscosity and a residual retraction energy, as defined, compared with the other component of less than 8 ergs. per centimetre per decitex and more than A ergs. per centimetre per decitex where A is given by the expression where P is the proportion of the higher viscosity component and X is the distance of its centre of gravity in the cross-section of the filament from the centre of the filament divided by the half width of the filament measured through the centre of gravity of the component and the centre of the filament. The fibres may be crimped.</p> |
