Antiinflammatory thieno-indolizines - also with blood platelet aggregation inhibitory activity

Thieno-indolizines of formulae (I) and II) together with their acid-addn. salts are new. In the formulae, Z is -CH2CH2- or -CH:CH-; R1 is H or one or more halo, OH, alkyl or alkoxy gps.; R2 is H or alkyl). Alkyls and alkoxy have 1-6C. Cpds. have antiinflammatory and inhibitory activity on blood platelet aggregation. A typical cpd., 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-thieno 2,3-g -indolizine, was prepd. by reaction of 4-methyl-thieno 3,2-c -pyridine with alpha-bromo-4-methoxyacetophenone in acetone, then the salt was heated under reflux with NaHCO3 in ethanol.
