The chassis is particularly intended for lightweight vehicles and gives improved free space for suspension travel and good frame stiffness. The chassis has normal side members (1) with auxiliary side supports that fit into the side member walls or run parallel to them. The auxiliary side members have open lower sections in which the spring shackle bolts fit. This open section can be formed by a box section without the lower plate or by two U-shaped members at a clearance from one another.
