The recoil spring lever latch (13, 14) is for the door (12) of a refrigerator freezing compartment. The lever pivots about the free vertical edge of a side hung door (12) to engage a sub-frame mounted demi-arrow head stop (20). A lever integral blade spring (15) acts to maintain the latch (14) engaging the stop (20). A normal force (A) on the outer end of the lever (13) is required to disengage the latch and a push on the door effects closure. The latch lever (13) may be a vertically elongated plate of uniform width, of constant bow shape in horizontal section and extending over the full height of the free vertical door edge. The concavity faces the door, the inner edge is cranked to form the latch (14), the outer edge curled for manipulation and the blade spring (15) built onto the inner face. The lever pivots about a vertical axis with top and bottom stub axles (16) engaging sockets (18) in cantilever plates (17).
