Sliding door suspension for motor vehicles - has profiled guide head and rail preventing damage on careless handling

The door mounting mechanism is used especially for motor vehicle sliding doors supported within the door opening area. This mechanism has a door strut and a support arm rotating about vertical axis. The guide head is connected to the support arm and the head has guide elements in contact with the profiled guide rail. The door opens at first outwards and then slides for opening. The guide head prevents movement between the head and the rail until the support arm has been rotated fully outwards. Damage to the vehicle body is prevented even is the sliding door is handled carelessly. The locking arrangement for the guide head has a stop arranged on the guide rail. The stop acts together with locking rod and cam on the support arm. The locking bolt and locking rod move at right angles to each other and they are connected by a plunger actuated changeover mechanism.
