1,264,169. Securing loads on wagons. J. WOESTENBURG. 11 June, 1969 [14 June, 1968], No. 29541/69. Heading B7L. [Also in Division E2] A releasable securing device for securing the wheels of road vehicles with respect to a railway wagon, an aircraft, or the deck of a ship comprises a stationary rail 3, and an elongate flexible clamping member 4 movable towards the rail 3 to grip securely any vehicle wheels' 5 located between the rail 3 and clamping member 4. The clamping member 4 comprises a rubber sheathed steel cable 17, and is moved by means of hooks 7 recessed in a base-plate 6 and extending through the rail 3, clamping being effected by tensioning a cable 12 which passes through eyelets 8 in the hooks 7 and over pulleys 13 fixed with respect to the rail on brackets 14. The wheels 5 are released by tensioning a cable 15. The hooks 7 may also be operated hydraulically by individual rams fed with fluid from a main conduit. In another arrangement, Fig. 5, two rails 3 are provided, and the clamping members 4 are in the form of inflatable flexible tubes connected to conduits 19 which supply, e.g., compressed air. The tubes may be divided longitudinally into separately operable compartments, or may be replaced by flexible sheets which are sealed fluid tightly to the rails 3. |
