<p>Polyester moulding and coating compsns. contain. by wt. and w.r.t. components (A) and (B): (A) 20-90(40-80)% alpha,beta-ethylenically unsatd. air-drying polyester and (B) 80-10(60-20)% cpds. which an be polymerised on. In addn. to opt. additives, these polyester compsns. also contains, by wt. and w.r.t. (A) + (B), (C) 0.1-8(0.3-5)% polymerisation initiators, (D) 0.001-0.1(0.01-0.05)% inhibitors, (E) 0.001-0.5(0.01-0.1)% standard promoters and (F) 0.05-5 (0.1-2)% additional lactone promoters. Lactone promoters have formula (F) (where R is (CH2)x, opt. substd. by 1-8C aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic gps. or a vinyl gp. and x is 2-4(2-3), esp. 2. R1 is a 1-8C aliphatic gp., NR2R3, cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl, 1-6C alkoxy, Ph but esp. Me R2, R3 each H, opt. substd. 1-4C aliphatic gps., Ph or cyclohexyl, or together form a 4-8C aliphatic gp.). Use of (F) for hardening air-drying unsatd. polyester resins is specifically claimed. (F) are highly active in reducing drying time of polyester compsns. In an example, addn. of 1 pt. alpha-acetyl-gamma-butyrolactone to a clear lacquer compsn., contg. 100 pts. polyester and 20 pts. styrene, reduced sand drying from 112 to 65 min. and zero film imprint formation from 8 to 5 hrs.</p> |
