Separator for dust removal from gas streams - having annular passage with vortex flow and sections of reducing diameter

Device for separating dust, droplets and mist from a gas stream consists of two concentric pipes, the outer one of which is formed from several sections. These form outlets in the line and successive sections are of smaller dia. The outlet feed into collection chambers which separate the outlet from the environment. At the top these chambers are connected to a suction source while at the base is an outlet for accumulated dust. In a wet type the inner side of the outer pipe is irrigated by means a circular distribution tray around the top. Device is used in removing dust, mist and droplets entrained in air streams, esp. in treating gas streams contg. toxic or harmful materials such as SO3. It is able to remove both large and small particles, there being no size limitation as with cyclones or bag filters. It is very much cheaper to install and operate than electro-static precipitators.
