<p>The sealing arrangements for rotary piston engines are intended for engines with a smoothly contoured lobed rotor (2) orbiting around a shaft (4) in a casing with one more working chamber (5) than the rotor has lobes. The working chamber profile closely follows that of the lobes, except in a sealing zone between chambers where there are axial seals in continuous contact with the rotor surface. Seal consists of seven strips (6) set in slots perpendicular to the casing surface, backed by corrugated-strip springs (7) which press them against shoulders in the slots. Projecting into the working chamber, these strips in turn seal against the rotor as it orbits; a similar seal arrangement is fitted in the end faces.</p> |
