The adjustable stand is used for an optical instrument, preferably a microscope. This microscope is focused on a given object and the microscope position can be adjusted and fixed in space. The microscope is used for observing and controlling the growth of single crystals during the nucleation and doping phases. An adjusting support (7) can be moved along a circular path around the object (15) and locked. A swivelling angle bracket (6) can be rotated about an axis (8) which lies in a plane through the circular arc around the object. A cross slide (5) moves at right angles to this axis (8). A baseplate (3) can be rotated about an axis (4) parallel to the sliding direction of the cross slide. Another slide (2) which carries the microscope (2) can be moved at right angles to the swivelling axis (4).
