1480100 Decorative coated panels ABITIBI CORP 27 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 48150/76 Divided out of 1480099 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A laminated coated panel comprises a base with a contoured major surface and a sheet of paper integral with said surface, the contouring providing a series of ridges and walled recesses of varying heights and depths and the paper bearing a printed pattern and a pigmented coating whose amount is least at the surfaces of the higher recesses, greatest at the bottoms of the lower recesses, and graduated over intermediate portions, whereby the pattern on the paper is exposed to view at said higher ridges and a visual contrast is provided between the ridges and recesses. The base may be a fibreboard, plywood, or particle board. Preferably the laminate is made by hot-pressing a woodgrain patterned paper on to a partially dewatered fibreboard and simultaneously embossing to form the contours, and then ovenbaking, cooling and rehumidifying. The coating may be applied and distributed between the ridges and recesses by means of a rotating resiliently-deformable roll as described in the Parent Specification 1480099. The coated panel may be provided with a transparent top coat; both coatings may be of acrylic resin. |
