<p>1466986 Oxychlorination catalyst VULCAN, MATERIALS CO 31 May 1974 [4 June 1973] 2,4203/74 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] An oxychlorination catalyst comprises a copper halide deposited on a carrier comprising a synthetic aluminosilicate of mixed layer or interstratified crystal structure with randomly alternating layers of montmorillonite-like (smectite-like) and mica-like (illite-like) structure, the copper halide being present in an amount to provide 2-15% wt copper calculated as metal on the basis of such metal and the carrier. The catalyst may further comprise 1-15% wt, alkali metal chloride and a crystalline molecular sieve component. The interstratified aluminosilicate may be of the form n SiO 2 : Al 2 O 3 m AB : x H 2 O wherein B is a negative ion internal to the lattice, e.g. F-, OH- or O<SP>2-</SP>; A is one equivalent of an exchangeable cation having a valence not greater than 2, e.g. H<SP>+</SP>, NH 4 <SP>+</SP>, Na<SP>+</SP>, K<SP>+</SP>, Li<SP>+</SP>, ¢Ca<SP>2+</SP>, ¢Ba<SP>2+</SP>, ¢Mg<SP>2+</SP> or ¢Sr<SP>2+</SP> and is external to the lattice; n is from 2.4 to 3.0; m is 0.2 to 0.6 and x is 2.0 to 3.5 at 50% relative humidity. A dehydrated form of the same material may also be used. The Examples describe compositions containing copper and sodium or potassium chlorides.</p> |
