The overflow prevention valve (9) is mounted on a fuel storage tank and closes when the fuel reaches a pre-determined level. The float (24) is attached to the lever (25) which actuates the combined cam (21) and lever (18). As the fuel level in the tank rises the valve head (17) is pulled onto the seat (16) and shuts off the main fuel flow. A small amount of fuel continus to flow through the by-pass valve (28) which reduces the shock due to the closing of the main valve. The operator then closes the supply valve on the tanker. Fuel remaining in the supply pipe flows into the tank raising the float (24) to a still highes level, which actuates the cam (21) and closes the by-pass valve (21).
