Zirconium hexafluorogermanate - for anti-caries prepns.

Zr (GeF6)2 or ZrOGeF6 is prepd. from GeO2 and ZrF4 or from alkalimetalhexafluorogermanate (pref. K-salt with ZrOCl2. The reaction is pref. carried out in the presence of HF, with a molar ratio ZrF4: GeO2 of 1:2, or 1:1 in the oxychloride reaction. The compd. is pref. used at 0.1-50 wt% in a suitable carrier (paste, 10-30% fluoride compound) and at 0.1-0.5 wt% in the dental prepn.
