The stepping motor consists of an armature pivoted at one end and passing through the airgap between two pairs of symmetric electromagnets at the other end. The armature or the stator can move along the axis of the air gap and at right angles to it. The first pair of electromagnets on one side of the armature cis pulsed with its electromagnets 90 deg. out of phase, and the second pair is 180 deg. out of phase with the first pair. The advantage lies in the electromagnets being independent of the rotor pivot point such that rotary as well as linear motion is possible without altering the basic design. |
