1479891 Die gap adjustment using simulation TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 11 June 1974 [12 June 1973] 25747/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division G4] Apparatus for approximating a desired distribution of the gap width between the lips 3 of a die controllable by traversely spaced bolts 1 includes a calculator device having setting means adjustable to simulate the settings X 1 X 2 ... of the bolts K 1 K 2 ..., means for generating from the setting means y outputs [Y 1 ,Y 2 ... representing the cumulative effect of the settings X 1 X 2 ... and approximating the gap width at each bolt K, means for generating, from the setting means, either a z output of the contributions at a bolt K from the settings X k+1 , X k+2 , X k+3 or a t output of the contributions at bolt K from settings X k-3 , X k-2 , X k-1 , X k , and means for measuring the gap width. Corresponding to each bolt is a potentiometer 7 adjustable to represent the rotation of the bolt. These are connected to a terminal board with switch contacts 8, each group of which is connected through weighting resistors 9 to addition means 10 giving y outputs to cathode-ray tube 11. Similar circuits for giving z and t outputs to tube 11 are given in Figs. 5 (not shown) and 6 (not shown) respectively. By switching at high speeds graphs representing gap widths against bolt position resulting from simulated adjustment of each, some or all of the bolts may be obtained.
