PURPOSE:To provide an optical data recording medium statisfying material characteristics such as high speed erasure, an erasure rate, recording stability, the enhancement of recording sensitivity or the like by constituting a recording layer of a ternary compound represented by a specific formula. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer composed of a ternary compound represented by XYZ2 (wherein X is one element selected from the elements of the Group Ia of the Periodic Table, Y is one element selected from the elements of the Group Vb and Z is one element selected from the elements of the Group VIb) is provided on a substrate. This ternary compound has an m.p. of about 500-700 deg.C and is in a state high in symmetry such as a cubic crystal in its structure at the time of crystallization and, therefore, when it is used as an optical memory material utilizing phase transfer between amorphous and crystalline or crystalline and crystalline, the stability, high speed crystallization and high speed erasure of a memory can be expected. Since this compound has a band gap between about 0.5-2.0eV, it can absorb semiconductor laser efficiently to convert the same to heat, high speed erasure and high sensitivity can be expected. |
