The motor has a vertical shaft (5) which produces a mechanical or electrical drive through the reduction gearing (7). The shaft is carried in bearings in an outer ring (3) carried on a structure (1). The vertical shaft carries a number of horizontal arms (9) located equidistantly along the shaft. The arms are fitted with a large number of vertical plates which are hinged to the horizontal arm. Each plate is capable of being pivoted from the vertical to the horizontal position.
