Power station using geothermal energy - is supplied by steam evaporated from water fed into deep bore reaching rocks fissured by explosive charge

A deep bore (2) is drilled into the earth's crust (1) to a depth at which the temp. exceeds 100 deg.C. Explosive charges are forced to the bottom of the bore and detonated so that the rock at the bottom broken to give a large number of fissures (3). A pipe (4) is inserted into the bore and water is pumped down through it. The heat in the rocks evaporates the water as it enters the fissures at the bottom of the bore and the resulting steam rises through the bore (2). It is led into a turbine (6) which drives an electrical generator (7). The system enables energy to be obtained from the earth's core at places where there is no naturally occurring geothermal steam.
